Supporting learning and development across hospice palliative care
Hospice New Zealand offers a range of scholarships to support the development and capability of people working within our member hospices.
Through the generous support of our partners and supporters, funding is available for a range of learning and professional development opportunities across nursing, psychosocial and allied health, and for Māori and Pasifika kaimahi.
There are currently three Hospice New Zealand scholarship opportunities available:
- Kaimahi Māori & Pasifika Scholarship
- House of Travel Nursing Scholarship
- BNI Palliative Care Scholarships

The Kaimahi Māori & Pasifika Scholarship is a new scholarship for Māori and Pasifika kaimahi employed by Hospice New Zealand member hospices.
Made possible through a generous bequest from Mr Ian Sexton, the scholarship supports professional development that helps build capability and supports the growth and retention of Māori and Pasifika kaimahi within hospice palliative care.
What can the scholarship support?
Funding can support a range of professional development opportunities, including:
- Postgraduate study
- Short courses
- Conferences and seminars
- Study days
- Hui wānanga and fono
Funding available
A total of $10,000 is available annually, with approximately 4–5 scholarships expected to be awarded each year.

Through our partnership with House of Travel, Hospice New Zealand offers a scholarship specifically for nurses employed by Hospice New Zealand member hospices.
The scholarship supports postgraduate study opportunities for hospice nurses, helping to build nursing knowledge, skills and capability across the hospice sector.
Available to eligible nurses employed by a Hospice New Zealand member hospice who are undertaking postgraduate study. Please refer to the application form for full eligibility criteria and application requirements.
Funding available
Through the generous support of House of Travel, $25,000 is available annually for nursing scholarships.
