Our goal, to see hospice more visible and valued, means making dying more visible and valued too. We asked Clemengers to help us with this societal challenge of getting people to talk more openly about dying. Embracing the challenge, Clemengers helped us create Dying Reviews; a world-first platform where people who are dying, or caring for someone who is, can rate and review the everyday systems that surround us. Dying Reviews gives the dying themselves the chance to share and process feelings about how they have been treated by businesses and organisations across Aotearoa.
In 2025 we released the first 500 Reviews. The results show us that systems are designed for efficiency and not consistently compassion, when people need it the most. New Zealand scores 3.28 out of 5. We can do better. With the help of Clemengers’ incredible generosity, skill and innovative spark, we’ve started a national conversation on what practical steps for change need to happen. Dying is not separate to our life. It’s part of living, when human to human connection, empathy and understanding matter most.
