Leave a gift in your Will

One in three people who die in New Zealand are supported by Hospice.  Hospice provides holistic wrap around care and support for people with a life limiting illness, and their whānau/family.

Choosing to leave a gift in your Will to Hospice is a generous and deeply meaningful way to ensure expert, compassionate care is here for people and whānau across Aotearoa- today, tomorrow, and for generations to come.

If you already have a Will, you can add a Gift with a simple amendment called a codicil. A codicil sits alongside your Will and confirms a change (for example, adding a percentage gift to Hospice New Zealand or your local hospice).  You can update your Will or codicil at any time - your decision is yours.

Everything provided through our 32 hospices around the country is free of charge.  Hospices across New Zealand rely on people leaving Gifts in their Wills to keep their doors open. With rising healthcare costs and the growing demand for services, your gift is more important than ever.

Your legacy, step by step

1. Give nationally or locally

You can direct your gift to Hospice New Zealand to strengthen hospice care across the country, or to a local hospice that is close to your heart. Your gift will ensure vital services remain available to people throughout New Zealand for years to come.

2. Write a will for free with Hospice

Hospice NZ and many hospices around the country are offering the opportunity to write your Will for free through Gathered Here. This makes it simple and affordable to include a gift to hospice in your Will.

3. A little can mean a lot

Many people leave a small percentage of their estate to their Hospice. Even a modest residuary gift, such as 5% of your Estate, can have a big impact on the patients we help every day. Give what’s right for you

4. Ways to leave a gift

Most supporters choose one of these options:

  • Residuary gift
A percentage, or the whole of, your Estate.  A residuary legacy is one of the most effective types of gifts because it will keep pace with inflation and hold its value better than a gift of a fixed sum of money.  Another benefit is that it is less likely to need updating over time.

  • Pecuniary gift
    A fixed sum of money.

  • Specific items
Anything of value such as stocks, shares, property, artwork, jewelry, etc.

5. Let us and your loved ones know

Telling your loved ones reduces surprises later, lowers the risk of disagreement, and helps whānau support what you’ve decided.

Telling us, helps us plan for the future and gives us the chance to say thank you.  Any information you share with us will be held in complete confidence.
