Hospice New Zealand remains committed to growing leaders in hospice palliative care. Thanks to the ongoing support and generosity of our national partner BNI New Zealand, Hospice New Zealand has awarded 10 study scholarships for 2019.

“We believe that supporting palliative care specialists in their professional development will help maintain and grow a well-trained and professional workforce, capable of delivering consistent quality palliative care to those with a life limiting illness and their families,” says Hospice New Zealand’s CEO, Mary Schumacher.

Since 2007, BNI NZ has been supporting hospice staff members to complete post graduate education via the BNI Palliative Care Scholarships programme. The programme continues to grow, and the scholarships continue to be sought after by high calibre applicants.

According to Graham Southwell, National Director of BNI NZ, there is a perfect synergy between the two organisations because of their shared common values. “BNI’s philosophy is about ‘givers’ gain’ and growing successful businesses within the community they operate in. Hospice is about supporting the communities in which people live. Doing good, is good for business. Both of our organisations share values of people connecting with people, and developing relationships based on trust,” says Southwell.

About BNI

BNI New Zealand, established in 1999, is the country’s largest and most successful structured business networking organisation for small to medium businesses. With over 2600 members and 120 groups around the country, members are on target to exceed $100 million in revenue generated through BNI New Zealand each year.

As a business community, BNI helps create business opportunities through a structured system of referrals and reciprocity, based on trust and giving. Business owners from all types of industries (only one trade representative per group) meet weekly. They build sustainable relationships with other businesses, develop new networks and practice BNI’s underlying philosophy of ‘Givers Gain’ to grow their businesses.

About the Scholarships

The scholarships cover tuition/course fees of up to $1,000 each for post graduate study via an accredited institution. Since 2007, BNI has been supporting hospice staff members to complete post graduate education via the BNI Palliative Care Scholarships programme. Over this time, BNI has donated more than $145,000 to fully fund the programme. Applications open in October/November each year for study in the following academic year.
