Clinical Advisor (Nursing), Hospice New Zealand

We are currently seeking expressions of interest in the wider sector for someone to fill this vacancy on the Hospice NZ Board. The purpose of this role is to provide leadership, advice and guidance to both the HNZ Board and the HNZ team, focusing on best practice and emerging trends relevant to all areas of our work.

There are two clinical advisory positions to the Board – one is a medical specialist

(NB: this position is currently held by Dr Brian Ensor, Medical Director, Mary Potter Hospice, Wellington) and the other is a nurse leader.  These positions are co-opted annually by the board with no fixed term.

Skill set required for Clinical Advisor (Nursing):

  • Experience providing clinical leadership in a hospice/hospital/aged residential care setting
  • Ability to think strategically
  • Ability to demonstrate commitment to the philosophy and values of hospice
  • Knowledge of different models of care, both here in New Zealand and overseas.
  • Experience in working at a national level across the sector 
  • Links to clinical practice, academia, research and education
  • An understanding and experience of working with the media
  • An appreciation and commitment to raising awareness and public education.
  • A commitment to attend meetings and other functions as required

The Hospice NZ Board meets monthly (usually on the third Wednesday of every month), except January.  These monthly meetings alternate between an all-day (9 a.m. to 3 pm) face to face meeting at the HNZ offices in Wellington and a one hour teleconference every other month.
