The competency programme was developed in 2005 by the HNZ Education Advisory Committee which is representative of clinical experts in palliative care across the country and updated again in 2008. The training is available through a number of hospices, please to find your local hospice service
During 2008, hospice nurse educators trained 1564 nurses using the syringe driver competency programme - a 30% increase on 2007.
This competency programme is currently being revised to reflect the transition from the Graseby MS-Series Syringe Drivers to an alternative recommended device.
