Hospice EBOP, based in Whakatane, provides community-based palliative care services throughout the Whakatane, Opotiki and Kawerau districts.

Services include: Home and community-based palliative care nursing services, loan of specialist equipment, 24/7 nursing support, grief and bereavement support, weekly day-stay programme, volunteer transport and family support. Support is provided for both the patient and their families/whanau.

Founded in 1981 to meet the needs of the terminally ill and their families in the Gisborne/East Coast region, the Gisborne Palliative Care Service cares for up to 165 patients, mostly in their own homes, each year. The Gisborne region covers a land area of 8265 sq km on the east coast of the North Island and stretches from just north of Morere Thermal Springs and Mahia Peninsular in the south up to the East Cape and Potaka township to the east of Opotiki.

Services include: Specialist doctor and nursing staff, night nursing, counsellor, bereavement care, spiritual care, volunteer service (65 volunteers), specialist equipment loan, community education, biography service and memory boxes and two specialist beds within Gisborne Hospital.

Waipuna Hospice provides palliative care services to the Western Bay of Plenty community, extending from Paengaroa to Waihi Beach. Services include specialist medical and nursing services as well as family support, volunteer support, massage, a day programme and equipment loan.

Waipuna Hospice has a 12-bed inpatient facility and receives about 400 referrals per year.
