Hospice Waikato covers the entire area of the Waikato District Health Board. It has three models of care - for Cambridge, Hamilton and Ngaruawhia - full hospice care and for the rest of the large region it has a collaborative model working with the district nursing staff to provide its service. Hospice Waikato has also appointed its first hospice nurse who lives and works on the Coromandel.

It also has a paediatric service which is child focused, family friendly Rainbow Place. This service looks after sick children and their families and also works largely with grieving children who have a sibling or significant other who has died.

Hospice Waikato also has four beds available in a rest home and provides grief and bereavement counselling, social work, training and supervision for all volunteers.

Hospice Waikato is entering an exciting phase as it has bought a motel/conference centre to be its home, which will allow it to have all services functioning from one site and the ability to build its own 10 beds. Phase one is to have all staff and Rainbow Place on site by August 2007 and the beds will be built as phase two.
