Otago Community Hospice provides specialist palliative care to people with life limiting illness in the Otago region. The hospice works closely with specialist clinicians in the hospitals and GPs to offer places on its programme for as many people as possible.
The hospice's community palliative care team works in Dunedin and around north, central and south/west Otago. The team comprises doctors, nurses and social workers/counsellors.
Otago Community Hospice has a 12–bed inpatient facility In Dunedin, offering care for symptom control, respite care and end of life care . It also provides a day care service and outpatient services are offered at the hospice and from Oamaru, Dunstan and Balclutha Hospitals. The hospice also works closely with rural hospitals in meeting the needs of people and their carers in rural Otago. Counselling is another service provided to patients and their families.
